In
1966 the Executive Committee of the International Trade Mart
(one of the two predecessor organizations of the World Trade
Center of New Orleans) decided on the name Plimsoll club for
the dining facility that was then under construction at the
top of the ITM Building at the foot of Canal Street and the
Mississippi River.
This
distinctive name came from the Plimsoll Mark, the universal
safe-loading symbol which is painted on the side of
ocean-going vessels throughout the world. After years of
battling in the House of Commons for safe maritime conditions,
Samuel Plimsoll, MP. was eventually successful in having a law
passed in 1876 requiring ships of British registry to display
the load line which became known worldwide as the Plimsoll
Mark.
To
celebrate the naming of our world-renowned Plimsoll Club,
please come and celebrate this 35th anniversary on Saturday,
September 15 with a sumptuous dinner and dancing.
Chef
Keith is featuring a menu of English fare. Enjoy dancing to
the music of THE JIMMY MAXWELL ORCHESTRA from 7:30 PM to 11:30
PM.
The
cost of this evening's extravaganza is only $45.00.
The
doors will be open at 7:00 PM. Make reservations for the time
you prefer between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM by calling Shelly
Cantrelle during the hours of 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM or Marc
Garcia after 4:00 PM at 529-1701.
If
you must cancel, please do so by noon on Thursday, September
13 and ask for your cancellation number to avoid billing to
your WTC account.
As
always, complimentary validated parking is available in the
WTC garage.
