What better way to celebrate a special event or the advent of spring than with lobster and dancing at the Plimsoll Club? Join us for a "no-bib" lobster dinner dance on Saturday, April 8.

Make reservations for the time you prefer either between 6:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. or between 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. by calling Mirela Hodge or Marc Garcia at 529-1701. The cost of this fabulous four-course feast is only $39.95 per person!

The evening will include our sumptuous lobster dinner plus dancing to the spectacular entertainment provided by Joe Simon Jazz Inc. from 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.

Due to this special event, the a la carte menu will not be offered. If you must cancel, please do so by noon on Thursday, April 6 to avoid billing to your account.

Remember to ask for your cancellation number. As always, complimentary validated parking is available in the WTC garage.

Enjoy an Easter Sunday Jazz Brunch on April 23

Hunting for the best holiday buffet in town? Hop on over to the Plimsoll Club for an Easter Jazz Brunch on Sunday, April 23.

We'll have baskets of bounty on the buffet, including an omelette station, soup station, baked ham, seafood crepes, roast prime rib, peeled shrimp, eggs sardou, poached salmon, strawberry blintzes, cafe brulot, and a dessert table that's sure to tickle your taste buds.

The cost of this fabulous buffet is only $30.95 for adults and $12.75 for children under 10.

During the event, you'll be entertained by The Storyville Stompers soft jazz trio and we'll have a balloon artist on hand for the kids. We'll also organize a drawing for the kids to win Easter bunnies! (Don't panic, Mom and Dad; these rabbits don't require cages or feeding.)

Make your reservations for the time you prefer at either 11:00 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. by calling 529-1701.

Complimentary validated parking is available in the WTC garage when you present your parking ticket at the Plimsoll Club.

If you must cancel, please do so by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20. The club will be closed on Good Friday, April 21.

Appreciate Your Secretaries with a PC Buffet

Need a special treat for those who keep your offices running smoothly? Take them to our National Secretaries' Week luncheon buffet available Tuesday, April 25 through Friday, April 28.

The buffet will feature two carved items, a selection of entrees, side dishes, assorted salads and desserts (including a flambéed choice).

We'll also give you complimentary cafe brulot for everyone at the table.

There will be no a la carte menu offered during this week.

The cost is only $16.95 per person. Call the Plimsoll Club at 529-1701 for reservations.

Twenty-four hour notice of cancellation is required to avoid billing to your account.

Sample Early Menu Before Going Out on the Town

Going to the theatre, the symphony or just enjoying a night on the town?

We offer a delicious Early Evening menu from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Thursdays when our a la carte dinner is offered.

Our Early Evening menu begins with starters such as crawfish cake with tartar sauce, grilled andouille sausage with turnip greens and black-eyed peas, soup du jour, and Caesar and Plimsoll salads.

Our main courses include daily selections of specially prepared chicken, fish and veal.

Desserts include carrot cake, sherbet du jour, chocolate mousse or bread pudding with praline sauce, etc.

The cost is $14.75 per person. Two hours of complimentary validated parking is included in this special price.

Dinner at the PC is the perfect way to begin your evening. Call 529-1701 for reservations.


A Friendly Reminder

Please remember that your 2000 membership dues must be paid in full by March 31.

Any dues balance remaining unpaid by that date will be written off in accordance with the WTC bylaws.

Hong Kong Trade Official to Speak at April 4 Breakfast

James Yuen, Director of the Chicago Office of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), will conduct a breakfast briefing on "China and Hong Kong: Business Opportunities in the New Millennium" on Tuesday, April 4 in the WTC's 29th floor Board Room.

Yuen began his career with the TDC in 1980 and has held numerous trade promotion positions in Hong Kong and abroad.

As Director of the Chicago Office since 1989, he is the Regional Head of the Council for 19 Midwestern states.

John Laborde to Receive Bertel Award

On Friday, April 7, John P. Laborde, Chairman Emeritus of Tidewater, Inc., will be the honored recipient of the C. Alvin Bertel Award at a luncheon at the Plimsoll Club for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of the Greater New Orleans port area.

The Selection Committee for the Bertel Award is comprised of the presidents of 11 organizations, including the WTC.

Foreign Relations Association and French-American Chamber

WTC members are invited to join the Foreign Relations Association and/or French-American Chamber of Commerce by May 1 for up to 50 percent off.

Both of these organizations are very active in the international community and offer excellent networking events, cultural exchanges and educational opportunities to their members.

The Foreign Relations Association of New Orleans is a nonprofit, nonpartisan educational organization founded in 1944 to promote understanding of world events.

The FRA offers speakers programs, international dining and informal discussions on a regular basis covering a variety of international subjects and foreign policy issues.

The French-American Chamber of Commerce, Louisiana Chapter, is a nonprofit organization promoting French-American commercial ties with a network of 20 chapters in the U.S. and one in Paris. In addition, the organization provides access to databases of French companies, basic trade liaison services and promotional opportunities through listings in the FACC directories.

Top Funds Manager to Speak on Global Markets

William L. Wilby, Senior Vice President and Director of Global Equity Investments with Oppenheimer Funds Inc., will be the featured speaker at a luncheon in the Plimsoll Club on Thursday, April 6.

His topic will be "Forecasting Global Markets in the New Economy."

Oppenheimer Funds is the 9th largest U.S. mutual fund company, with assets under management of $126 billion.

Bill Wilby heads the global equity investment team at Oppenheimer, which manages over $17 billion in 15 global and international mutual funds and was ranked by Morningstar as the #1 inter-national management team in the U.S. mutual fund industry.

In addition to heading the team, Wilby personally manages the $8.4 billion Oppenheimer Global Fund and the $2.2 billion Global Securities Fund/VA.
