WTC Expands Foreign Language Program

The World Trade Center is joining forces with Alpha Tech Communications (previously known as inlingua) to offer comprehensive language services to WTC members and others in the Greater New Orleans area.

Starting the week of February 21, a 10-week session will be held at the WTC Building at 2 Canal Street twice a week after business hours. Among the languages offered will be Spanish, French, Italian and German, as well as Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, and English as a Second Language.

The cost for all of these classes for a six-student group session is $175 for WTC members and tenants, and $350 for the general public. Free parking is available in the WTC garage on Poydras Street. Private Accent Reduction, Business English, and TOEFL preparation classes can also be arranged.

Alpha Tech uses the interactive direct method of instruction, which focuses on developing speaking and understanding skills in a short time.

Native speakers of the target language teach the classes, and there is virtually no translation during class. This forces the students to not only find the words in the language they are learning, but also to develop the skills needed to get their ideas across, even when they do not know all the words or the correct grammar for a sentence.

These courses emphasize business vocabulary and have a strong intercultural element. The direct method is one of the methods of preference used worldwide by language training organizations.

For further information about the WTC language classes, call Alpha Tech at (504) 454-6554. Alpha Tech also provides professional translation and interpreting (consecutive and simultaneous) services to WTC members at a 10 percent discount off the normal rates.
