WTC Selects Robinson Brothers for
Cunningham Award
The World Trade Center has selected Charles W. Robinson and
Samuel G. Robinson, both of Robinson Lumber Company in New Orleans, as
joint recipients of the WTC's Thomas F. Cunningham Award for 1997.
The prestigious Cunningham Award dates back to 1945 and is
presented by the World Trade Center "in recognition of
outstanding service toward better social, economic and cultural
understanding and cooperation among the peoples of the Western
Hemisphere and to stimulate and inspire continued understanding and
friendship among all Americans."
Some of the past recipients of the Cunningham award include
Congressman Bob Livingston, Dr. Doris Stone, Father James Carter, Dr.
Alton Ochsner, Hale Boggs, Milton Eisenhower, Nelson Rockefeller, and
Henry Kaiser.
Charles and Sam Robinson have been involved with Robinson Lumber
Co. as part-owners and executives for over 50 years.
They were instrumental in facilitating lumber production and
exports by company sub-sidiaries in Central America (primarily Belize,
Nicaragua and Honduras) and in South America (Brazil and Bolivia).
Also, as a result of their frequent sales trips to markets in the
Caribbean, they similarly developed key relationships with many
customers who continue to do business with the company to this day.
In these capacities and through-out their careers, Charles and Sam
Robinson developed extensive personal relationships with prominent
local individuals and families, which have been important for the
company's successful operations and furtherance of Louisiana-Latin
American ties.
